The Real Skinny

Quick. What’s the largest organ of the human body?

Well, actually, it’s your skin. Your skin covers more surface area and weighs more than any other organ. But for some reason, we don’t think of it as an organ. If you were asked to list the organs of the body, you would probably start with the brain, heart, lungs, liver and so on. These organs actually do something. The skin just holds it all together.

We often think of business software in the same way. We hear people talk about the “brains of the system” or the “heart of the system” or the “backbone of the system”. But have you ever heard anyone talk about the “skin of the system”? It just doesn’t happen.

Maybe it should happen more. After all, without your skin, you wouldn’t function nearly as well or look nearly as good. Skin also makes it easy to tell where one system ends and another begins. Knowing where the boundaries are makes it easier to interact with other systems. It also helps you sense your environment and make sense of incoming data. Wouldn’t these functions be useful in business software?

We think so which is why we’ve delivered ProcessFlow Integrator (or PFI) – a solution that helps hold everything together. PFI helps you integrate business processes that flow through your organization. (Hence, the catchy name). As you’d expect, you can integrate processes that flow from Lawson applications. You can also integrate third-party applications.

Like skin, PFI is flexible and can grow with you. It’s also visual – you can see what’s going on, just like you can see what’s happening with your skin. It helps you define your boundaries and helps you reach out and touch other systems. Most importantly, it holds everything together in one tidy bundle.

So check out ProcessFlow Integrator. It’s skin toner for your business.

As its name implies, The Lawson Opinionizer offers opinions. We believe we've got our facts straight but we don't guarantee it. A new Opinionizer appears every Monday. If you have an opinion, send an e-mail to Opinionizer@lawson.com
